Pacific Coast Shipwrecks

Farallon
In January 1910, the Alaskan Steamship Company’s Farallon struck Black Reef in Cook Inlet off the Alaskan Peninsula. The Farallon had no wireless radio aboard and therefore was unable to send a SOS. Thirty eight men scrambled into lifeboats and rowed ashore where they made camp with limited provisions. After many months in the Alaskan winter, sheltered by tents made from the vessel’s sails, the men were rescued. Relive this adventurous tale of shipwreck and survival accented by an incredible photographic record by one of the survivals.

Unforgiving Coast: Maritime Disasters of the Pacific Coast

The author, David Grover, former Chief Mate in the Merchant Marine and Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve and a widely published author, has selected nine wrecks between the northern California border and Vancouver Island including two shipwrecks on the Columbia River bar known as the "Graveyard of the Pacific". Grover delves into these wrecks to determine the underlying cause of loss and relays the stories of survival and those of tragedy. A fantastic book for those interested in Pacific Northwest shipwrecks. This is a very good quality book on a subject that is not widely publicized.

The Wreck of the Diamond Knot - DVD

The Diamond Knot, one of the best wrecks in the Pacific Northwest, was sunk in 130 feet of water near Crescent Bay, Washington on August 13, 1947 as a result of a collision. She carried a multi - million dollar cargo of canned salmon (over seven million cans), sorely needed to help feed a devastated Europe, struggling to recover from World War II. After a massive and dramatic salvage effort to recover her cargo, the Diamond Knot was all but forgotten, left to the ravages of time and the harsh, unrelenting currents of the Straits of Juan de Fuca. Until now...
This is the story of two divers who devise a unique plan to revisit the Diamond Knot. Using DPV's (diver propulsion vehicles) and the latest in diving technology, they brave the strong and often unpredictable currents to once again walk the decks of the Diamond Knot.
